This action figure will be instantly recognizable to just about anyone who’s been playing video games since 2001. But just in case you’re Osama Bin Laden and don’t know who he is; Halo is set in the 26th century, and the central playable character is Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, the only surviving super-soldier of the SPARTAN-II project, and mankind’s only hope in the fight against The Covenant. The Covenant are a coalition of alien species set on eradicating the human race from the universe.

Master Chief’s metallic green MJOLNIR battle armour is obviously his most noticeable feature, and makes him look like a robot. But although you never see his face he’s all man underneath (I’ve read the books), and the armour give him incredible physical strength and protection against battle damage.

I had a Halo action figure when Halo 2 came out, made by Joyride it was bigger, but considerably less detailed, and not as poseable as this one, which is only 5 inches tall. It has an amazing 18 points of articulation including; neck, shoulders, waist, hips, knees, ankles and even toes – meaning that unlike many action figures he can be posed in most cool looking positions, as well as some very uncool ones.

He comes with the good old, bad old standard Marine issue assault rifle that was in the original Halo, got dropped for Halo 2 but came back in Halo 3. He also comes with a widget that allows you to stow the rifle on his back, just as he does in the game, although he doesn’t come with a secondary weapon so I’m not sure of the point of it unless you like to pose your 7ft Spartans waving, or holding flowers. The series 2 Master Chief does come with a Battle Rifle and a Gravity Hammer though.

Sadly at the time of writing although MacFarlane make several other figures from Halo 3 (Cortana, the Brute Chieftain, Jackal Sniper, 2 different Grunts and several versions of the interchangeable multiplayer armour), the vehicles they make are of a much smaller scale, so you can’t buy a Warthog for this particular MC to zoom around in, and that is a darned shame.

Best Bits

- Highly detailed
- Very poseable
Worst Bits

- Dude, where's my Warthog?
