|New Super Mario Bros.|
Release Date: Out Now
This is the game I purchased an imported DS Lite for, and quite possibly one of the few games for which a review is pointless. Mind I like it so much I thought I would do one anyway. Itís an easy review and here it isÖÖ
THIS GAME IS BRILLIANT Ė GOT A DS, THEN GET THIS!!
The thing that struck me when I actually started playing is just how little I have really played the 2D Mario games. Console gaming pretty much passed me by till the N64 and that only really got used for Wave Race and Goldeneye. I had of course seen them being played and thanks to the GBA have had a brief encounter with them but itís only with this latest outing for the Mario Bros. that I have realised how much I am missing.
With all things retro being so popular, it is to Nintendoís credit that they have created a game which seems more up to date and fresh than most of the current Xbox 360 titles whilst at the same time being oh-so-true to its roots. Itís a traditional side-scrolling block busting platformer. Collect the coins, jump on the baddies, and smash the blocks. It may sound simple (and it is) but itís all about the gameplay and this little cart has it in spades.
So are there any problems? Well to be honest, no. Some may say that the second touch screen is wasted (only really used as a map and progress guide) but thatís just nit picking. Also the Giant Mario mode (which many will have seen from screenshots) may look gorgeous but itís not really used for anything other than getting Ďhard to reachí golden coins. Also, because the game is so good and so much fun to play, it can be completed rather quickly Ė but that just gives you the excuse to go back and start again.
As I said, this game is a credit to Nintendo and after seeing what they can do when they put their minds to it on a hand held, you canít help but get excited about what they have planned for the Wii. Not only is this a game that every DS owner should have, itís a game that every gamer should have. At the end of the day itís all about the gameplay and New Super Mario Bros. is crammed with it
- Plays brilliantly
- Looks great
- A tad too short
