Spyro Fusion is other half of the story from the game Crash Bandicoot Fusion. The premise of the game is the same as Crash in that you go through levels finding warps that open mini-games and challenges. In Spyro, however, you don’t collect crystals to open the rest of the game up. Instead, you have four warps in each area which unlock 4 symbols on the main warp gate. Once they are unlocked, the main warp becomes open. The story is of course the same as Crash Fusion, but this time you see things from Spyro’s side. To be honest it is pretty much the same, with the end-of-level storytelling screens being tweaked slightly to show Spyro in the centre of the action.
![]() The mini-games themselves range from quite similar to identical to Crash Fusion. They are of course all themed to fit in the Spyro universe, but as the themes of the levels that you play in are the same as Crash then they can only change slightly as they would be out of place. Rubber-dinghy water rapids sections from Crash are now vertical shooting sections with the same gameplay, and weightlifting button-bashing levels are now ice melting contests in Spyro’s game. The worlds you travel through are themed the same, but are actually different from those you play through as Crash, which is nice. Although the game is very similar to its brother title, Crash Bandicoot Fusion, I don’t think Spyro plays quite as well. It’s just down to taste of course, but I have always preferred the Crash range of games to the Spyro series, and this game isn’t any different. I prefer the controls and the way Crash moves over Spyro games which seem a bit slower paced and the lack of double jump can be frustrating in leap-of-faith-type moments, and using Spyro’s flying ability doesn’t always help.
![]() Overall though, this is a good, solid game. Which version of the game you’d choose, I think will depend on which character and game series you prefer. They really are very similar to each other, and I don’t think it’s worth owning both of them unless you find the other half cheap somewhere. The choice is yours… Dragon or Bandicoot…

- Nice change to the normal platform game. - The mini-games are enjoyable to play. |
- Some of the challenges might be too hard for the little ones? - Spyro doesn’t play quite as well as Crash. |
