From the makers of Driver (that glitchy and flawed, yet devilishly addictive PSOne game) comes a new breed of driving adventure, you are the backbone of action movies, you are the Stuntman.

Driver was all about playability, the graphics were poor but the handling of the cars and the way you could just drive around a city causing major road accidents more than made up for it, Driver was fun.

Stuntman tries to do the same sort of thing, it concentrates more on the way the cars feel and what you do in them than how they look, and it shows. The graphics are primitive to say the least, Stuntman looks like a hi-res PSOne game with a few added effects - the cars are well modelled but lacking in detail and the scenery is solid but unimpressive, Stuntman does just enough to be average.

The gameplay is where the game really shines, you are a professional stuntman who's prepared to do anything. The game sees you hired by film companies to perform their stunts, and you have to follow the directors orders and make it look as good as possible. Each film contains a number of scenes, where you're asked to do a variety of things - chase bad guys or jump onto a boat, whatever it is you have to pull it off as quickly and as accurately as possible to progress. Each film is set in a different location, the first few see you in Thailand, America and the Alps (very nice this time of year), and each has a distinctive look and plenty of neat touches that add to the effect. Once you have completed the scenes in the film you're shown the trailer for it, including replays of your work and teasers of the storyline, just like the real thing - the developer really made the effort to make Stuntman believable.

By successfully completing films you unlock extras, including cars and toys to use in the Arena Builder, this is a neat feature where you use a Tony Hawks style builder tool to create your own stunts, as you earn bigger and better toys they get more and more outrageous, and it's a great relief from the frustrations of the main game. The vehicles in Stuntman are brilliant, they range from pick-up trucks to TukTuks (small Thai cabs), and they all handle just as you'd imagine, you really cant fault Stuntman in terms of variation and fun.

Stuntman offers a new style of driving to an already packed genre, and it works very well, it can get quite difficult and very annoying at times, but you'll hate to fail and you'll always want one more go. Very worthy of your £40, especially if you were a fan of Driver.
