The God of War Collection: volume 2 is the newest addition to Sony’s HD remake series. What makes this extra special to those die hard God of War fans is that if you're one of the many that did not own a PSP these games will be completely new to you and to those of you that did you can play it on the big(ish) screen.

The gameplay stays true to the previous God of War games (except without the use of the trigger buttons). The combat system is still as gory and fast-paced as ever, and the addition of new magic moves in combat allows for some very destructive battles. Of course it would not be God of War without that special blend of over-the-top button mashing boss battles and gory quick time events that all these games deliver. Naturally, you can also upgrade your weapons and abilities throughout the game by collecting red orbs, this allows the game to fit to your style of play whether if you want to be more weapon orientated or play by busting people up with more powerful spells.

Throughout the games Kratos has to solve a small variety of puzzles, most of which are simple to figure out, but I found there were some puzzles that were hard to complete, not because of difficulty, but because the fixed camera angles make it so key items are hard to find.

To those who owned this game on the PSP and to most the main reason to get this bundle is because of the shiny new makeover it has received. Graphically it looks good, it’s nowhere near God of War 3 but leans towards a more of an early PS3 title, although there are a few visual flaws such as questionable speech animations and low detail on backdrops. The reason behind all this is because although many tweaks have been made the engine is the same as the original games which adds nicely to the nostalgia factor.

With the God of War Collection Volume 2 you get both the PSP titles: Ghost of Sparta and Chains of Olympus. Chains of Olympus is set ten years before the first game where after mercilessly beating down both a giant Basilisk sent from the Invading Persians and their King, the evil God Morpheus has come to take over Olympus by putting everyone to sleep. So naturally you have to kick some God ass! Chains of Olympus is set between the first two games where Kratos (now the God of War) has seen a vision that his apparently dead brother is still alive. This leads Kratos on a long search to find his brother Demios, killing everything in his path along the way. All in all both the games stories aren’t really ground breaking, regardless of this there is always a large amount of enjoyment to be found via the medium of breaking people’s faces.

The God of War Collection Volume 2 is very good value for money as you get two great games that you may not have played. Rather than just picking this game up it would be advised to play through the other games first otherwise you will get lost in the story. The collection gathers together arguably two of the best-looking games from the PSP and renders them in nice shiny high definition with a few minor visibility glitches. If you love God of War and never played the PSP version or you already have it on PSP it is worth a purchase. Plus of course, there are boobs, which is always a plus in any game!

Worst Bits

- After a while it’s more of the same.
