Microsoft boosts Game Pass with $7.5b Bethesda acquisition

Someone at Xbox sensed an opportunity after the chaos around PS5 pre-orders, and with the first batch of Xbox Series Xs & Ss to go live tomorrow, they announced a huge new partnership with ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks.

Given Bethesda will still be publishing their own games, it seems unlikely that this deal will result in them becoming a part of Xbox Game Studios, at least not right away.

However, throwing those franchises into an already overflowing bucket of good stuff available to Game Pass holders is a strong look. Whether this means any changes to the intended platforms or timed exclusives of Starfield, Deathloop & Ghostwire: Tokyo, your guess is as good as mine.

[Update: looks like they'll honour the existing agreements, no word yet on Starfield.]
