Pre-ordering a PS5 is absolute chaos

Sony opened advanced pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 yesterday. Carnage ensued.

UK retailers like Amazon, GAME, SimplyGames & Argos were sold out in minutes, and second releases (some of which reportedly went live at 4am this morning) were almost immediately snapped up too.

At time of writing, Box.co.uk is still accepting orders for the Digital edition (with a £1 deposit), but chances are they won't be around for long.

Now it wouldn't be the first time a shambolic pre-order system just added fuel to the hype machine, but it remains to be seen whether they'll (artificially or otherwise) limit supply and risk being sold out on launch day. With Microsoft giving fence-sitters a very appealing entry point to next-gen gaming with the Series S, the race could be tighter this year after all.
